We want to hear what our clients think about us and the service we provide. Without feedback we cannot continue to improve. Once a year we invite all clients to complete our online feedback questionnaire. Clients are asked to rate us as poor, fair, good or excellent in 8 different areas. The results of the completed 2016 feedback questionnaires were hugely encouraging, with 100% of respondents rating us as good or excellent in terms of our staff being helpful and approachable, understanding our client’s organisation, meeting client deadlines and producing quality documents. We are especially proud that 100% of respondents would recommend us to others.

Quartet Community Foundation is one of 46 accredited community foundations in the UK. The Foundation manages and administers endowment and revenue funds on behalf of funders, annually awarding £2.5m in grants to community groups and organisations in the Bristol area.
In early 2016, the Foundation’s freelance accountant left. The charity took this opportunity to develop the skills and expertise of the current Finance Manager so that most of the accounting function could be brought back in-house.
Godfrey Wilson were appointed to support, train and mentor the Finance Manager through the period of transition, to enable her to build her skill base and make the transition to her new role. We have assisted with the preparation of the annual accounts and audit process, as well as providing support with the management accounts and with the complex endowment tracking spreadsheets. Support is provided via a mix of structured sessions and ad hoc troubleshooting. We are working alongside the Finance Department to improve systems and processes, such as formalising month end procedures and working papers, updating the format of the management accounts, carrying out a VAT review and redesigning the Sage accounting system. We have also delivered a training session to the grant assessment team on how to interpret charity accounts.
"Quartet engaged Godfrey Wilson 9 months ago to help, train and mentor our existing Finance personal. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their insight, input and mentoring. Both Alison and Guy have gained much respect from us with their patience, practical and professional help and given us valuable training and mentoring which has given us confidence in performing our financial roles." Sarah Crispin, Finance Manager, Quartet Community Foundation.
The Youth Adventure Trust is a registered youth development charity working with vulnerable young people aged 11 to 14 years old from across Wiltshire and Swindon. The Trust’s mission is to inspire vulnerable young people to reach their full potential, learn valuable life skills, build confidence and self-esteem and to make a measurable difference to their lives through a programme of outdoor activities and challenging experiences.
Godfrey Wilson were initially appointed in 2014 to help the charity to transition from cash-based Excel bookkeeping records to an accruals-based Sage system with tracked restricted funds. We have continued to work closely with the trustees and Chief Executive to develop the accounting system and produce detailed monthly management accounts with commentary and budget variance analysis. This has aided strategic decision making and improved financial awareness on the board.
In 2016 we were appointed as auditors to the charity. We continue to provide regular advice and support to the charity, most recently being asked to advise on the implications of setting up a trading subsidiary for the charity’s sponsorship activities. The trading subsidiary is now operational, and the charity has made substantial VAT savings as a result of the restructure.
Mark Davey, Chief Executive of Youth Adventure Trust says... "Godfrey Wilson quickly understood who we were and what we were trying to achieve. They have radically improved our financial controls and reporting to such an extent, that I have no doubt in saying, they have been a key driver in helping us to achieve our budget surplus for the last 3 years. This has given us the financial confidence to now embark on a period of growth. I never thought finance could be so enjoyable..."
The League of Adventurists International Limited is an award-winning adventure generating travel company who have raised over £1 million for charity. Each team entering an adventure pays a fee to the Adventurists for organising the event and pledges to raise an amount for charity.
The company's finance system had been unsuccessfully outsourced to three different accountancy firms in three years. Godfrey Wilson were appointed to co-ordinate and oversee the process of bringing the finance function in-house. This included training an individual with no finance experience to run the day-to-day bookkeeping and prepare monthly management accounts, design and install a new accounting system capable of uploading data from the company website and reporting on an event-by-event basis, overseeing the introduction of financial procedures and offering ad hoc financial advice to the board.
Following successful implementation of the in-house finance function, Godfrey Wilson have now been appointed to operate the company's payroll, prepare the company's year end accounts and provide ongoing strategic advice to the board.
Jenny Hunter, Director of The League of Adventurists International Limited says “Having struggled for a long time to find an accountancy firm which could provide our company with the financial support it needs, it has been an absolute delight to have worked with Godfrey Wilson. Their work has revolutionised the way we are approaching our finance and we have the clearest picture we have ever had of where our business stands now and where it needs to go to perform better. I am confident in saying that this could not have been the case without the assistance and training that Godfrey Wilson have provided for us both in- house and externally.”
“Compared to my experiences with other accountants and auditors over the years, Alison is a breath of fresh air - extremely competent but also proportional and understanding of how small charities work in the real world.”
Chief Executive, Viva Network
